The lip lift is a same-day surgery procedure that elevates the upper lip by shortening the distance between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip. An incision is made at the base of the nose and the upper lip is then "lifted" toward the base of the nose by shortening the amount of skin between the nose and the lip. The incision can be made at the area of the nose crease or at the border of the lift to hide the scar.
There are several ways to perform the procedure, including removing the skin above the lip (at the "vermillion border"), or at the base of the nose (the "modified" upper lip lift).
It is believed that if the incision is made at the base of the nose, the results last longer than if made at the top of the lip.
