Lip Lift

Description

  • The lip-lift is a same-day surgery procedure that elevates the upper lip by shortening the distance between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip. An incision is made at the base of the nose and the upper lip is then "lifted" toward the base of the nose by shortening the amount of skin between the nose and the lip. The incision can be made at the area of the nose crease or at the border of the lift to hide the scar.
  • There are several ways to perform the procedure, including removing the skin above the lip (at the "vermillion border"), or at the base of the nose (the "modified" upper lip lift)
  • It is believed that if the incision is made at the base of the nose, the results last longer than if made at the top of the lip.

Benefits

  • As people age, the upper lip elongates, creating a tired, droopy appearance. Shortening the distance between the nose and the lip creates a more youthful appearance.
  • Aging cases the upper lip to thin and "roll in". A more youthful, "full" lip appearance is also created by reversing this process and increasing the amount of "red" or "vermillion" of the lip that is seen.
  • Can be performed as on its own but often combined with a face/neck lift procedure to create a complete and balanced younger appearance
  • "Lip-lift" can also correct previous scar deformities that are in this area, removing the scar and improving appearance in one procedure

Ideal Candidate

  • Younger patients who wish to have more "lip fullness" (you believe your upper lip is too thin)
  • Older patients who wish to have more youthful appearance
  • Patients who want a more permanent solution
  • Do not want fillers or botox to lips

Consultation

  • During your consultation, Dr. Cho will take measurements of your lip and other facial features
  • Discussion with your surgeon regarding how the procedure can be combined with other procedures, such as rhinoplasty, neck lift, eyelid lift or face lift
  • Discussion of which anesthesia strategy will be used (just injecting local anesthetic, similar to a dental procedure, or if additional medicine will be administered)
  • Recovery time and post-operative course (how long it will take for lip swelling to go down/ scar to mature)
